Ukraine war: Briton killed while volunteering in Ukraine, says sister

A British man has been killed while chipping in as a doctor in Ukraine, his sister has said.

Ms Mackintosh has raised more than £5,000 on a GoFundMe page to take her sibling's body back to the UK, inquiring: "Kindly assist us with bringing this war legend home."

The Foreign Office said it was supporting the family.

Composing on the gathering pledges page, Ms Mackintosh said: "Our sibling boldly elected to go to [Ukraine] as a surgeon to assist with saving lives in this war torn country.

"This magnanimous man is as of now abandoned in a mortuary in Ukraine and there is no assistance to get him home."

She said it would cost around £4,000 to return his body to the UK.

"We have addressed a global burial service supplier and it will cost around £4,000 to have him localized back to the UK," she said.

"He gave his life to save others and he really wants to return home to have the assistance he merits.

"A genuine legend's administration encompassed by his loved ones. Kindly, kindly assistance to bring our legend home."

Starting around Thursday morning, the family had surpassed its objective, raising more than £5,000.

'Incredible grit'
Mr Mackintosh, 52, had been presenting with the local army joined to the Ukrainian armed force, his companion, George Dyson said.

It was Mr Mackintosh's second visit through the nation and he was close to the city of Kharkiv when he was shot.

The pair were toward the end in touch by means of a scrambled informing site on 18 August, when Mr Mackintosh let him know his unit was under weighty fire, Mr Dyson said.

He said he was anticipating getting back home.

"He told me, 'this will be my last hurrah, in a manner of speaking'.

"He said he had 46 days left until his flight home, and said 'that is all there is to it, I'm returning to cultivating'."

Presenting a recognition on his companion via virtual entertainment, Mr Dyson composed that on the day Mr Mackintosh was killed, his "unit was nailed down and supported losses and Craig [being] a surgeon, took care of his business and was helping with aiding his kindred troopers, and on stumbling into open ground was tragically shot..."

He added: "I've quite recently addressed part of the gang that was connected to Craig's group and he said that Craig battled with extraordinary fortitude and [honour]."

A Foreign Office representative told the PA news organization: "We are supporting the group of a British man who has kicked the bucket in Ukraine and are in touch with the neighborhood specialists."
